Every new project is a new discovery!

At the beginning of June, I participated in the preliminary visit (APV) of the Young

and Rural project in Alqueva.

Together with other team leaders from various countries, we laid out the program for

the exchange that will take place at the end of August and early September, involving more than 30 young Europeans.

Alqueva is a tiny village in central Portugal, located in the municipality of Portel. The village is surrounded by more or less dry fields, even though the full summer didn't start yet. Along the main road, there's a restaurant where we had all our meals—breakfast, two snacks, lunch, and dinner. The quality of the food and the kindness of the owners were truly invaluable.

Alqueva is close to a dam equipped with a beach where families relax during their free time. We had the opportunity to spend a day there, even though it required a 20-minute walk under the sun and the 32-degree heat.

Between work sessions, another highlight was the visit to the Medronho Museum, which showcases the typical fruit of the region used to make different types of liqueurs, unique to the territory. It will be wonderful to see this little village filled with young people in September, exploring a place renowned for its declining and aging population.
